Heritage Hills High School officially opened January 1973, midway through the 1972–1973 school year. During the fall of 1972, students still attended Dale High School and Chrisney High School, but football was played under the Heritage Hills name, with home games at Dale. Because the campuses remained separate until January, both schools selected Homecoming Queens.
